2024 : residency & exhibition at MATDOT Art Centre, Bangkok

In November - December 2024 I undertook a residency at the MATDOT Art Centre in Bangkok. This saw me undertake a period of studio research and the development of new works for an exhibition at MATDOT in December 2024-January 2025.

In the Pattern and Space series of 3 works developed and shown at MATDOT, I explored a number of pattern systems and incorporated Thai traditional textiles as part of the substrate for the works. This allowed me to not only distort the painted pattern, but to allow the actual textile pattern to disturb the illusion of space in each work. The textile elements also added a physical texture to the surface, and allowed me to vary the surface quality of the works. This allowed the textiles not only to be the subject of the works, but to have a voice in the physical surface and space of the paintings.
